This 24th of December, the focal point of our Christmas tree is (as it should be) the Nativity scene.
Wishing everyone a very peaceful and merry Christmas...

Verde en King St. & University Ave. Green
I really liked this tree because a) is natural and b) is green (given its use of LED lights).

Me parece algo tan canadiense...
I really like this Xmas tree decoration outside College Park. It is simply made using birch tree branches, decorated with cardinal birds and some pine greenery. Somehow it seems very Canadian to me...

El Arbolito Más Caro - Most Expensive Xmas Tree
The BBC reported last week that a "UAE hotel boasts 'most expensive Christmas tree'". It seems that this very glitzy hotel in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) had ask the Guinness World Records to certify that their tree is the most expensive in the world, as it is worth over $11 MILLION dollars.
How could it be worth so much? When you considered that it is decorated with 181 diamonds, pearls, emeralds, sapphires and other precious stones, in addition to gold bracelets, necklaces and watches, you can imagine how it all adds up. It was reported that the 13 meter tree itself was worth a MERE $10,000, so the jewellery alone is worth $11 million.
Looking up data on the web, I learned however, that a Xmas tree set up by Piaget in Japan in Dec. 2002, still holds the record for most expensive tree, as its 83 jewellery pieces had a total cost of $10,853,597. Perhaps taking into account inflation or current dollar value, that Piaget Xmas tree still holds this record. In any case, it's so hard to believe that there had been such extravagant and exorbitant Xmas trees!

The lobby at Queen's Park was decorated this year with a Christmas tree made entirely of Poinsettia plants. Although they are hard to see in this photo, at the top there are white Poinsettias to finish off the Xmas tree look.

U.S. National Christmas Tree - Arbolito de Navidad de E.U.A.
This week I learned that the US National Xmas tree has not only a Facebook page but even its own Twitter account @TrackTheTree! And I thought my idea of a blog focusing only on Xmas tree photos was too outlandish, little did I know...
But, it should be said that the Americans do take this 87-year tradition seriously. To wit, the lighting ceremony, which is scheduled for Dec. 9, at 5 pm, is going to have live performances of B.B. King, Maroon 5 among other artists. As the article "Capitol Christmas tree has a Twitter account" (from The Hill website) describes, this year's Capitol's Xmas tree is a three-ton, six-story tall Engelmann spruce from Wyoming. Its Twitter account has been describing its journey from the time it was felled until it is at least lit for the first time (probably even longer).
More information about this event, as well as its history, photos, ideas for tree decoration, etc., can be found in The National Christmas Tree web site, hosted by the National Park Foundation.

| Historic Photo of the National Christmas Tree |
